According to the International Labour Organization, a specialised agency of the United Nations, there are almost 21 million people in forced labour worldwide with almost 19 million victims being exploited by private individuals or enterprises.
Clearly something had to be done to combat this and the Home Secretary believes the Modern Slavery Act 2015 is a “…truly ground-breaking measure” which will improve the UK’s response to modern slavery.
