On Friday 6 May London’s Christie’s hosted the second Libralex Art Law Conference in collaboration with The International Art Market Studies Association (TIAMSA) and Christie’s Education: “Blockchain and the Art Market: Hype or Revolution?” with a Keynote Speech from, Christie’s Deputy Chairman of 20th & 21st Century Art EMEA, Dirk Boll.
Laytons Partner, Paddy Kelly was a moderator for a panel discussion on whether tokens make art an asset class with panellists including Jon-Selous Borlace of Old Square Tax Chambers, Omri Bouton of Sheridans, Guido Contesso of EBW Capital, Martin Donoghue of William Sturges LLP and Freya Stewart of the Fine Art Group. Other panel discussions concentrated on how blockchain applications have developed and grown within the art market, the legal and regulatory issues concerning art NFTs and tokenised physical artworks and whether provenance research and due diligence will ever be replaced by blockchain technology.
