Judgment was handed down today by Mrs Justice Rose DBE following an 18-day trial in the Chancery Division of the High Court in the case of Willers v Joyce and Nugent.

At an interim stage, the Supreme Court extended the tort of malicious prosecution to include civil proceedings generally (by a majority of 5-4) so that the case could proceed to trial. The Supreme Court also gave a significant ruling on the precedent value of decisions of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in the Courts of England and Wales.
